In Memory of Francis Gritzmacher

When Frank first went into Hospice, it was pretty emotional. I finally had to face that he was dying. There were a lot of sleepless nights where I thought about it. If I seem calm now, it's because I've cried a lot of tears on my keyboard already.

I spent a lot of that time time collecting photos and putting them together into a slideshow. Of course, it needed a soundtrack. At the time, I wasn't aware of his extensive YouTube playlists.

So I used an Irish Wake theme for what I did. I've put a lot of it together into this YouTube playlist.

I'm uploading the slideshow to YouTube as well. I was going to keep it for the memorial celebration, but with it postponed, I decided to release it now. I hope you enjoy it. While we're all cooped up with the Corona virus thing, raise a glass of your favorite beverage and give a toast for Frank this St. Paddy's day.

I'm really sorry we had to postpone the memorial event because of this. It just seems like so many things are being turned upside down because of this stupid bug.

We (the committee working on it) did discuss it quite a bit before reaching the decision. It's not something we took lightly or decided without weighing the consequences. The last thing we wanted to do was upset everyone's travel plans. But in the end, we felt it was the right thing to do.

We won't set a new date until we have an idea how this pandemic thing is going to play out. Right now, it's hard to guess how long it will take, or how bad it will get. But we will carry on when it subsides. Until then, be safe and stay healthy.

The good thing is, the weather will be getting warmer, although it's been a mild winter, and it might make a much nicer time to all get together. Who knows, we might turn it into a picnic!

I thought it would be nice to be able to write a few words here from time to time as they occur to me. So I added a way to do that without building an entire new web page.

This is the result.

I'll probably ramble on here every so often.

Back when Team Frank was doing the fundraisers for COTA, Frank was asked to write something for the web page.

This is the last paragraph of his blog post:

In the future, after I get a transplant, I already touched base on my plan to return to college. Then maybe get a job or something in the video game industry. But aside from that, I have a lot of ambitions. I want to see the world. Maybe not all of it, but some of the key points. I want to go on a cruise in the Bahamas. I want to see the Aurora Borealis from Alaska. I want to see London, Paris, Athens and Barcelona. I want to visit my extended family in Maine and Arizona. I want to take a nap on the beaches of Oahu. Explore the halls of Alcatraz. The list goes on. But honestly, I’d be fine if I never left Lockport again, as long as I get more time to spend with my friends and family. They’re who I live for, they’re who I owe so much to. They are my inspiration to be a better me.

He did accomplish a lot of that, but he had time with his friends in spades.
